Readies alternative route to keep oxygen express movement. Use of alternate train routes to keep the rail freight operations running, stalling passenger train operations, readying construction equipment to clear up the post-cyclone debris (like trees, electricity wires and poles, mud houses), increasing power backup and keeping diesel gensets ready, are just some of the steps taken with cyclone YAAS set to hit the Eastern coast affecting parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh – which are also battling Covid cases.
To prepare for the impending very severe cyclone set to hit coastal Odisha, West Bengal and possibly parts of Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh operations on ports along the Eastern Coast like Dhamra, Paradeep, Haldia is being stalled (in terms of clearing anchored ships). In addition, Railways have also lowered passenger trains plying on Kharagpur to Bhubaneswar route.

Chabahar port sees growth in monthly vessel calls
India, which has proposed Chabahar Port (located in Iran) to be part of the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC), would also support inclusion of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in the INSTC.
“The INSTC is an important trade corridor project, wherein India is partnering with 12 countries to establish an economic corridor for the benefit of our peoples. We also welcome the interest of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to join the multilateral corridor project..India has also proposed the inclusion of Chabahar in the INSTC route,” said S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, in his address on ‘Chabahar Day’ at the virtual Maritime India Summit 2021 on Thursday.
