People with disabilities and jobs during a pandemic

People with disabilities and jobs during a pandemic April 30, 2021 This article is in conjunction with the annual Workers’ Day celebration on May 1. KUALA LUMPUR – As the nation prepares to celebrate Workers’ Day on Saturday, albeit on a limited scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a stark truth has emerged about the employment of people with disabilities (PwD). Sadly, the pandemic has made it all the more difficult for PwD to remain gainfully employed, not to mention the usual impediments of constraints of facilities in the workplace and acceptance by the public, especially employers. Decision on leave days for Covid-19 vaccine jabs after engaging stakeholders, says Human Resources Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision on leave for workers for Covid-19 vaccinations will be made only after engaging with stakeholders and worker unions, says Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan. He said that the issue of taking off for a whole day for employees after receiving vaccination has to be looked into carefully as it may affect the flow of industries and added that he has spoken to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba on the issue. The Human Resource Ministry will only make its decision on giving a day off for workers who receive the vaccination after we have spoken to union representatives such as the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC), said Saravanan.
