Houlder awarded concept design contract by Marine Scotland Houlder, a leading design and engineering consultancy, has been awarded two new contracts by Marine Scotland, the Scottish Government Directorate responsible for the integrated management of Scotland’s seas. The two-vessel design contracts ensure support for the design and build of two new vessels which will have enhanced vessel capabilities and be designed to operate in the harsh conditions of the North Atlantic and the North Sea. Following a fleet evaluation in 2019, Marine Scotland developed a fleet plan to meet the future needs of marine protection and research in Scotland. In preparation, Marine Scotland has signed two technical service contracts with Houlder to ensure a qualified concept design for two new, state-of-the-art vessel types: a scientific research vessel, and a compliance vessel.

A new floor and ceiling have been installed throughout the terminal building, in addition to a full renovation of the walls complete with bright, colourful paintings. The café area has benefited from a revamp, with new comfortable seating throughout, decorative plants, a new air conditioning system, and vending machine facilities. The check-in area has also had a makeover.  Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘A renovation of the passenger terminal has been on the radar for some time now and we are really pleased with the results. The improvements will greatly enhance the passenger experience, making it much more comfortable for those waiting to board.

Isle of Man s main ferry returns to service © BBC The Ben-my-Chree arrived back in Douglas Harbour on Thursday The Isle of Man s main ferry is set to return to service after delays during its annual overhaul. The Ben-my-Chree had been due to resume crossings in mid-May but was delayed after inspections found its stern tube bearings were more worn than expected. The vessel s first passenger and freight journey will leave Douglas for Heysham, Lancashire, at 20:45 BST, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company said. The ferry arrived back in Douglas Harbour on Thursday evening. A Steam Packet spokesman said both the Manannan and MV Arrow, which had been undertaking the services, would now be rested for a few weeks .
