Balochistan: In the Crosshairs of History

Balochistan: In the Crosshairs of History   Mon, Feb 22 2021 01:08:34 PM By Aditi Bhaduri Feb 22 (IANS): The year began on a subdued note with the assassination of journalist and activist Karima Baloch, one of Balochistan s few, fiery and brilliant women freedom fighters. Her dead body was found in a lake in Toronto, Canada. The death is strongly alleged to be that of the Pakistani deep state. It, however, did not ignite international passions as the farmers protests in democratic India did, for example. Yet, this was not a one-off assassination. It was part of a broader pattern of continuous death, destruction and dispossession of an entire community by the very state that is meant to protect and ensure their rights. Just in September another Baloch female journalist was killed, her perpetrators went scot-free.

Baloch nationalists expose gross violations of human rights in Naya Pakistan

Baloch nationalists expose gross violations of human rights in Naya Pakistan   Tue, Feb 16 2021 02:06:26 PM By Ateet Sharma New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS): The likelihood of either thing happening remains zero even though the protest venue has seen some high-profile visitors in the recent days, including many Pashtun activists like Afrasiab Khattak, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Manzoor Pashteen, human rights defender Amina Masood Janjua and some more. The Balochs have for long argued that their missing loved ones - most of them vocal critics of the Pakistani deep state - are actually in the illegal custody of Pakistani intelligence agencies and are dying a slow death in the jails of country.
