Two Rivers police say a young adult male died of a gunshot wound overnight and persons of interest in the crime are in custody.
Two Rivers Police Chief Brian Kohlmeier spoke with Seehafer News and said
“Last night, just before midnight, our dispatch received a call of a disturbance at 1809 28
th Street here in Two Rivers. The information from the caller was that there was some sort of weapon involved and that one person may have been shot. Upon the officer’s arrival, they did locate one adult male that had an apparent gunshot wound. They attempted lifesaving efforts, but unfortunately, they were not successful.”
As the judge read the verdict, Steven Avery listened, then shook his head.
That was on March 18, 2007, a Sunday. Avery was found guilty at the end of a 27-day trial of killing Teresa Halbach, a 25-year-old photographer who disappeared on Halloween in 2005.
Avery, then 44 years old, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He had already spent 18 years in prison for a sexual assault he did not commit before he was exonerated by DNA evidence in 2003.
His story was featured in the Netflix docuseries Making a Murderer, which cast doubt on the motives of police investigating Halbach s death and left many viewers with the impression that Avery, now 58, and his nephew Brendan Dassey, 31, were wrongfully convicted.

In a new court filing, attorneys for Steven Avery claim a delivery driver came forward with new evidence that ties an Avery family member and an unidentified man to the vehicle of a murder victim and asks that the case be sent back to circuit court for new proceedings.
The documents, filed Monday, say a newspaper delivery driver saw Bobby Dassey Avery s nephew and Brendan Dassey s brother and an unidentified man in his 50s or early 60s with a long grey beard pushing a Toyota RAV-4 around the Avery property in the early morning hours of Nov. 5, 2005, only days after the disappearance of Teresa Halbach.
