Sweet success: Sisters upgrade from ice cream truck to shop

The Converse sisters make all their own ice cream in six-quart batches. American Honey, a salted vanilla honey flavor, and Coffee Oreo are two are their biggest sellers.
PALMETTO, Fla. - After two years of making and selling small-batch ice cream out of a truck, two sisters fulfilled their dream of opening a brick-and-mortar ice cream shop earlier this year.
Ali and Mindy Converse are now the proud owners behind American Honey Creamery and Coffee Co. in Palmetto.

They initially operated American Honey Creamery out of a truck that visited Manatee County locations such as outside The Home Depot on State Road 64. Ali Converse said they chose the Palmetto location for their storefront because, even as the area experiences growth, it still has a rural feel to it. We love the small-town feel, we love regulars, we love having locals come in and to build relationships with people, Converse said. We re located near a school. There s not too much around us, so we did see a need for coffee and ice cream, a place where people can come as a family and really bring the community together.
