A wide range of ideas awaits Biden Lenny Bernstein and Dan Diamond A stunning report this week that an estimated 93,000 people died of drug overdose deaths in 2020 has renewed attention on the nation’s other epidemic: the drug crisis that the government, health-care workers and street-level activists have been battling unsuccessfully for more than two decades. The Biden administration made the drug problem a top priority even before it came into office. But the worsening crisis is President Biden’s responsibility now, and it may demand more innovative approaches that advocates have been proposing for years and other countries have adopted.

Expert says Huntington/Cabell need more sufficient, longstanding treatment programs

CHARLESTON – Testifying in the bellwether opioid trial, a expert witness on pharmaceutical-related abatement programs said he does not believe Cabell County has sufficient treatment programs to fight the opioid epidemic.   The City of Huntington and Cabell County sued three of the nation’s largest pharmaceutical distribution companies – AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson Corp. – in 2017 claiming the companies are largely responsible for fueling the current opioid epidemic that led the area to lead the nation in prescription opioid related deaths and at one-time being named the “epicenter of the opioid crisis. The federal bench trial, part of a larger national Multi-District Litigation case, resumed June 28 after a weeklong break.

By Tisa Mason, President, Fort Hays State University David Letterman probably did much to instill the notion of “Top 10 Lists” in our popular culture. But decades before the late-night host did his thing, newspapers were culling past editions to create year-end round-ups of their top stories. Ten is a good number; after all, it’s what we can count on our two hands, so in keeping with tradition, here’s a list of the top 10 news items at Fort Hays State University this year. The list, roughly in chronological order, is certainly not all-encompassing – there are great stories and good news every day at FHSU – but it does provide a means of looking back and recounting some of the many blessings we enjoyed in 2020.
