The DMK MLA from Thirupparankundram constituency, P Saravanan who joined the BJP at 12 noon on Sunday has been given a party ticket to contest from Madurai North where he will take on DMK candidate G Thalapathi.
When asked how come the BJP offered a party ticket to Saravanan who joined the party just a few hours ago, a smiling Murugan said, “Indeed, Saravanan has joined the BJP online on Saturday itself. On Sunday, he formally joined the party in Chennai. Besides, his popularity in the constituency, his services to the people were taken into consideration while giving him a party ticket.

A senior district functionary, on the request of anonymity, said, It is very disappointing that the party leadership have neglected the long-time workers and have asked us to pave way for newcomers.

Chennai: In the world of âAya Ram and Gaya Ramâ politics, this one would take the case. Till Sunday morning, Saravanan, a doctor by qualification, was a DMK legislator representing the Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency in the temple town of Madurai in south Tamil Nadu.
Upset that the DMK leadership had allotted the constituency to ally CPM, Saravanan joined the BJP in the presence of its state president L Murugan in the morning. Within a few hours when the BJP leadership announced that list of candidates in 17 of the 20 constituencies, allotted to it by the AIADMK, Saravananâs name figured in it as the candidate from the Madurai North constituency.

New Delhi, March 14 : The BJP on Sunday released a list of 17 candidates for the April 6 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, including names of actor-turned-politician Khushbu Sundar from Thousand Lights and its state unit chief L. Murugan from Dharampur (SC) seats.
BJP General Secretary Arun Singh said: The Central Election Committee of the BJP met under the chairmanship of party chief J.P. Nadda, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and other members present, and decided 17 names for the ensuing Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
