MTN says power outages threaten cellular network stability

NETWORK operator MTN is working around the clock to maintain network stability as power outages, battery theft and vandalism pose ongoing risks.
It said on Friday work operators were fighting hard to maintain network stability in the face of the multiple threats posed by high levels of load shedding, battery theft and the continuous vandalism of network infrastructure.
Ernest Paul, MTN SA General Manager: Network Operations, said “Although the vandals and thieves have a direct impact on network availability and stability, load shedding and load reduction, which has increased over the past five years, has emerged as the biggest contributor to our challenges.”
The high court review of the R538m contract between the East Cape department of education and information technology company Sizwe Africa and cellphone giant MTN for the supply of 55,000 e-learning tablets for learners hangs in abeyance after the department’s private legal team was forced to withdrew from the case.
Entries open for MTN Business App of the Year Awards

MOBILE operator MTN said this week the MTN Business App of the Year Awards, now in its tenth year, was officially open for entries from aspiring entrepreneurs and digital innovators across the country.
“This year’s edition comes with the exciting extension of the App Academy to include youth from across Africa to participate in this dedicated app development and coding initiative that forms part of the App of the Year Awards 2021 edition,” it said.
Last year, MTN launched the MTN Business App Academy to mentor and upskill aspiring talent for a career in app development in South Africa, and this year the App Academy was open to youth from across the continent.
The MTN Group will bid again for a Ethiopia operating telecom licence in the second round if mobile financial services are included, its CEO said on Friday after losing the first round.
