Chandigarh: Amid a surge in coronavirus cases in Chandigarh, a weekend lockdown has been imposed in the Union Territory beginning at 5 am on Saturday (May 1).
However, with daily night curfew hours in Chandigarh starting from 6 pm to 5 am, the restrictions will effectively come into force from Friday evening.
Any breach of the orders shall invite action as per law, the order said. (Representational)

Amid a surge in coronavirus cases in Chandigarh, a weekend lockdown has been imposed in the Union Territory beginning 5 am on Saturday.
However, with daily night curfew hours in Chandigarh starting from 6 pm to 5 am, the restrictions will effectively come into force from Friday evening.
The Chandigarh Administration said it has decided to impose weekend lockdown on similar lines as its satellite towns of Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting here chaired by Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore, who is also the Administrator of the union territory. The administration also announced other restrictions, which will be in place till April 30.
The Chandigarh administration announced a weekend lockdown in the union territory from 10 pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday, in view of a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Announcing the fresh restriction in an official statement here, the administration urged residents to stay indoors.
