The Udupi Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, G Jagadeesha, has declared Manipal Institute of Technology’s (MIT) campus in Manipal as a containment zone.
A late evening notification by G Jagadeesha, Deputy Commissioner of the district, mentioned 59 patients as Covid-positive on the campus.
It said that faculty and essential duty staff of MIT campus are allowed in the campus with proper pass/identification.
Raju K, Assistant Commissioner of Kundapura Sub-Division, has been appointed as Incident Commander, who will be overall in-charge of the containment zone. The Incident Commander will take necessary actions as specified in the containment zone notification, he said.

UDUPI: Rashmi Samant, an alumna of Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE, who created history by winning the prestigious Oxford Student Union Presidency on February 11, has quit the post after she was embroiled in a controversy over her alleged insensitive comments on social media that some termed ‘racist’.
Though Rashmi reportedly posted those comments a long time back, pressure was mounted on her to apologize and quit from the post. The first ever Indian woman to occupy the post resigned on Tuesday.
In 1979, he became the group s managing director, and by February 1993, had become the group s chairman. In doing so, he became the third generation of his family to head the Muthoot Group after his grandfather and his father.
A split in the Muthoot family in the 1980s saw the family s empire divided between his cousin brothers and himself which, eventually, led to the creation of Muthoot Pappachen Group, another diversified entity that ran a rival gold loan enterprise Muthoot Fincorp.
But under his leadership, Muthoot Finance turned into one of India s leading gold loan non-banking financial companies becoming the first-ever NBFC to break the Rs 1,000 crore net profit ceiling.
