The Burlington Hawkeye newspaper building on Main Street to be sold

Staff reports The Hawk Eye Gannett Co. Inc., the owner of The Hawk Eye, plans to sell the newspaper s building at 800 S. Main St. The six-day-a-week newspaper still will have a location, be it in a different building or in the current office space through a lease agreement.  The about 24,000-square-foot building located just south of downtown Burlington near the Mississippi riverfront, is among about 160 Gannett-owned buildings on the market.  Aidan Cleghorn, a partner with New York-based commercial real estate broker Bell Cornerstone, which is handling the marketing and sale, said 800 S. Main St. was selected to put up for sale based on anticipated operational cost savings transitioning to a lease option will bring. The same is true for other Gannett-owned buildings that have been put on the market.
