Call for extra airport measures

COUNCILLORS are calling for measures to protect local residents after a plans panel decision to allow expansion at Leeds Bradford airport. Otley and Yeadon councillors Sandy Lay and Ryk Downes have written to Leeds City Council’s Director of Planning asking for further measures. Cllr Lay said: We understand that Leeds have given permission for a new terminal and night time flying but the panel asked officers to renegotiate some of the proposed planning conditions. We have therefore written to the director with suggestions which reflect the comments we have received from local residents particularly around the impact of three million extra passengers using the airport.

New electric charging point

OTLEY is set to get a second charging station amid increasing demand from drivers of electric cars. The town already has one charging point - at the Licks car park on Cattle Market Street. Local councillors have been approached by a number of residents asking about charging points - most of them people who have bought electric cars or are thinking about doing so. Now the town is set to get a second charging station in Beech Hill Car Park funded from a government grant and maintained by the company which installs it. Otley and Yeadon councillors Sandy Lay, Colin Campbell and Ryk Downes are welcoming the latest proposals to expand the network of electric car charging points in Otley.

Police clampdown on Chevin parking

POLICE are clamping down on dangerously parked vehicles on Otley Chevin after complaints from local people. A total of 18 tickets were given out last weekend by officers from the local neighbourhood policing team - and drivers are being warned that daily enforcement will continue. In a facebook post on Monday West Yorkshire Police North West said: “Over this past weekend, officers from your local NPT once again attended Otley Chevin at the request of concerned residents, in relation to dangerously parked vehicles. “As you can see from the below photographs, traffic is being forced into the oncoming lane by dangerous parking. On one of the photos below, this has resulted in the car having a damaged wing mirror.

Proposals to protect services in Otley and Yeadon

BUDGET amendments have been put forward by Liberal Democrats to protect and improve services in Otley and Yeadon and the wider Leeds area. The proposals, which were put forward at Wednesday s Leeds City Council meeting, would include the protection of Yeadon Sailing and Activity Centre and would keep Ellar Ghyll tip open seven days a week. They would also provide free parking in Otley. Otley and Yeadon councillor Sandy Lay said: Because of Covid 19 things are difficult for local government at the moment. However we believe our proposals, which are cost neutral, would benefit everyone. In particular we are looking at a number of schemes to benefit the environment with investment in public transport and extension to local recycling. Locally we have found funding to reverse the decision to close for most of the week Ellar Ghyll waste transfer station and keep it as a seven day service .
