GUISELEY and Rawdon has a new ward councillor after Conservative Paul Alderson was elected to Leeds City Council. Cllr Alderson replaces fellow Conservative Pat Latty who is retiring after more than a decade in office. The new councillor is a father of two and is local to Guiseley. He said: I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone across the Guiseley and Rawdon Ward who voted for me in the Leeds City Council Elections. It is an absolute privilege to be given the opportunity to stand and represent the best interests of our area as a Leeds City Councillor.
DANGEROUS and illegal parking on the south bank of the River Wharfe is putting pedestrians and cyclists at risk, it is being claimed. Local people are calling for action to tackle the problem on the stretch of unadopted road leading to Buon Apps. Labour’s candidate for Otley in the Leeds City Council elections Lucy Nuttgens said residents had brought the issue to her amid fears about the risk of an accident. She said: “There is growing concern about parking along the road on the south bank of the River Wharfe leading to Buon Apps. Drivers are parking on the pavement forcing people to have to walk in the road especially when pushing push chairs. Some have reported being hooted at by drivers for being in their way.
TWO council buildings in Otley and Yeadon are to go green with the installation of sustainable heating systems. Spring Gardens in Otley and The North West Recovery Hub, also known as Suffolk Court, in Yeadon will have ground source heat pumps installed in the summer. Ward councillor Colin Campbell, who lobbied for the new system, said: The pumps are a pollution free way of providing heating to the centres. In effect they take heat from below ground, store it and use it to feed radiators. The system has the double benefit of, after installation costs, producing free energy, which will allow cost saving to be reinvested in local services.
