Hamilton Southeastern Schools to Host Solar Tours
Hamilton Southeastern Schools flipped the switch on two solar arrays in 2019.
The 4,800 panels power three schools Sand Creek Elementary, Sand Creek Intermediate and HSE Intermediate and Junior High and are expected to save $300,000 per year in utility costs.
An educational event at Sand Creek Elementary School on April 17 will give community members the opportunity to learn more about the school s decision to go solar.
“It will allow folks to check out those panels, see them in action. Hear from representatives from Hamilton Southeastern about why they decided to invest in solar and how the solar investment is saving them money,” Zach Schalk, of Solar United Neighbors, said.
SANDY CREEK â Sandy Creek second-grade students got a little taste of local agriculture with a virtual field trip courtesy of the Oswego County Agriculture Literacy Week and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
During the virtual trip, students got to see farm animals, tour a local dairy farm and ask their host questions as they toured the farm.
âThe kids absolutely loved the tour and the program fit right in with our social studies units on community history and rural areas,â said Sandy Creek Elementary second-grade teacher Judy Allen. âWe want to thank everyone who helped make this possible for our students.â
Each second-grade classroom received a packet with some newspaper articles and coloring pages about dairy farms, and the school also received a story book called âTales of the Dairy Godmother Chuckâs Ice Cream Wishâ to share with the students. The book has been donated to the library for anyone to check it out.
