Conventional diesel-electric Vela is undergoing advanced stages of sea trials
The 4th Scorpene conventional diesel-electric submarine Vela is expected to be commissioned into the Navy by year end while Vagsheer, 6th and last Scorpene submarine which is under construction, is expected to be launched into water by year end, according to a defence source.

Scorpene-class submarine INS Karanj was commissioned into the Indian Navy on Wednesday. The ceremony took place at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, in the presence of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh and Admiral (Retired) VS Shekhawat.
INS Karanj is the third diesel-electric submarine of the Kalvari class a class based on the Scorpène-class submarine commissioned into the Indian Navy on Wednesday.
