Milk parlour gutted in midnight inferno | Surat News

Surat: A dairy parlour in the posh locality of Adarsh Society in Athwalines was gutted in fire that broke out on Friday midnight. Fire officials said that incident happened at around 11.40 pm at the Jalaram Dairy located near SMC’s Athwa zone office. Locals noticed smoke coming out of the shop and alerted the owner and the fire department. Firemen from Majura Gate and Man Darwaja stations were pressed into service. “After breaking the shutters, we encountered a lot of smoke. But we managed to douse the blaze in half-an-hour,” said Maruti Sonwane, station officer. “A short-circuit might have started the fire. The furniture and electronic appliances were damaged due to the fire,” said Sonwane.

The competition will be held on March 6 and 7 SURAT: The city police have come up with a unique way of spreading the de-addiction message, by providing a platform to youths to flex their muscles, literally. The Diamond city will host Gujarat’s first-ever state-level bodybuilding competition for cops, Mr Police, from March 6-7. Along with the Mr Police competition, the city police will organize a state-level Mr Gujarat bodybuilding championship and also a powerlifting competition for fitness enthusiasts across the state. The events will be held at Dayalji Ashram, Majura Gate and police parade ground in Athwalines. This is the first time that the city police department will be organizing such events. The registration process for the competitions has already begun.

Ground-breaking ceremony for Surat Metro today | Surat News

Picture used for representational purpose only SURAT: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will perform the ground-breaking ceremony virtually for the first phase of the Rs 12,020 crore Surat Metro Rail Project via video-conferencing. Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, social justice and empowerment minister Ishwar Patel and BJP chief C R Paatil among other dignitaries will remain present at the venue at Diamond Bourses in the city. According to sources, the metro project is 40.35km long and comprises two corridors. The 21.61-km-long corridor-I is from Sarthana to Dream City, while the 18.74km-long corridor-II is from Bhesan to Saroli. It will consist of 10 elevated stations in South-West Surat and connect Dream City with Kadarsha Ni Nal in the city’s core. East of that, the line will head underground towards Surat Railway Station for 3.46 km and onward to Chowk Bazar at 3.56 km.
