Former opposition MDC senior leaders in Masvingo who defected to Zanu PF, a few months ago, have attended their inaugural party provincial coordinating committee meeting where they reaffirmed their allegiance to the ruling party.
Led by ex-Masvingo Urban legislator and deputy minister Tongai Matutu, the new ruling party members said they were not mercenaries but revolutionaries who had come back home.

FORMER senior MDC Alliance official Lillian Timveos, who in February defected to Zanu PF, has graduated from the ruling party’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
Speaking after her graduation, the ex-lawmaker said she deeply regretted wasting her time and resources in opposition politics and was now an excited member of the ruling party.
Timveos, who was the MDC Alliance deputy treasurer before her surprise resignation, said Zanu PF was a democratic party and encouraged other opposition members to dump their political formations and join a party that has “liberation war credentials”.
“I joined Zanu PF as it is a stable party. The opposition in this country is fragmented. They are confused. 21 years down the line they do not know who their leader is,” she said.

THE infighting and strategic missteps wracking the MDC Alliance are once again coming to a head, with a worried insider telling the Daily News yesterday that the coalition was becoming “a Twitter party”.
In addition, the senior alliance official also lamented the “undue” influence that a few “unelected people” – including “some politically-naive academics and lawyers” were increasingly having on the coalition’s leadership.
At the same time, political analysts warned yesterday that if the MDC Alliance did not change course and recalibrate its strategies, it risked being decimated by Zanu-PF, by the time of the 2023 national elections.
This comes after former MDC senator for Zvishavane, and member of the Alliance, Lillian Timveous, as well as Blessing Chebundo – a former MP for Kwekwe Central – dumped the party, amid its ongoing senseless bloodletting and name calling.
