At a public hearing held by KERC at the deputy commissioner’s office in Mangaluru on Friday, the Mescom officials said the company will have to hike tariff by Rs 1.67 per unit to plug the revenue gap of Rs 943 crore projected for the year 2021-22.
The company has presented before the commission that the steep increase in power purchase cost has forced it to propose a hike in tariff. However, the majority of organizations, including Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and consumers objected to the company’s demand. Mescom has a 24.88 lakh consumer base in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru and it expects to sell 5,658 million units of power in 2021-22.

AAA To make it easier for consumers to pay their electricity bills and lodge complaints, Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (MESCOM) formally launched the ‘Nanna MESCOM’ app on Friday.
Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) chairman Shambu Dayal Meena launched the app. He also launched the use of Point of Sale (POS) machines at the MESCOM cash counters to help consumers pay bills using their debit and credit cards. The POS machines will start operating from March at 78 cash counters in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru.

Consumers may use the app to pay bills, check details of bills, get information regarding power disruptions and for various other utilities. The app has options for the people to register one or more accounts and it can be used by consumers of rural and urban areas. The one touch payment option allows consumers to make payment of electricity bills and also pay deposit to the Mescom instantly without hassles.
