MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) Many parents want their kids back in school full-time.
Less than 24 hours ago, local parents created a Facebook group dedicated to letting community members voice concerns about Mankato Area Public Schools’ decision to delay the transition from distance to hybrid learning.
“We understand the frustration,” said Stacy Wells, communications director at Mankato Area Public Schools. “We would like to have our students back as well, so we understand that they are just looking for a platform and a way to kind of share how they are feeling. So, we respect that.”

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Mankato Area Public School leaders plan to ask the school board to approve moving the district’s youngest learners back to the classroom.
In the school board agenda posted this afternoon for its next meeting, the board is being asked to approve returning Pre-K through five students to the hybrid model beginning January 19.
That model has elementary students learning in class each school day.

The Mankato and St. Peter school districts are among those preparing to welcome elementary students back to buildings in mid-January. The timing of a return for secondary students is less certain.
Mankato Area Public School officials tentatively hope to bring back elementary students full time on Jan. 19. A potential date for Mankato secondary students has not been announced.
St. Peter elementary students likely will return part time Jan. 6 and return to full time Jan. 19. St. Peter secondary students could return to a hybrid model as soon as Jan. 11 if local COVID-19 case rates continue to decline.
All the prospective return dates also are contingent on no new coronavirus outbreaks among students or school staff.
