MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Salvation Army is accepting applications for Easter grocery assistance.
Head of households will get $25 plus $5 per person in that household, with a six person limit.
In hopes of meeting any dietary restrictions some may have, vouchers are for all groceries, not just meat and dairy like before.
“So they can buy bread or just vegetables. Whatever is going to be easier for families to maintain their diets, whether that be for health reasons or religious reasons,” said Lt. Andy Wheeler, of the Mankato Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army shelter in Mankato has served a total of 200 people since the beginning of February. With some days at almost capacity with about 18 to 20 people using the day shelter.
“We’ve had almost a record number this season, with a couple days of being at almost 90 percent capacity.but it’s not as bad as we thought it would be. We thought we would have to turn people away because of capacity but that’s not been the case yet,” said Lt. Andy Wheeler of Mankato Salvation Army.

Facing shortfall, Salvation Army Red Kettles to remain out into January
Mankato Salvation Army extends Red Kettle program into January By Mitch Keegan | December 23, 2020 at 3:25 PM CST - Updated December 29 at 6:51 PM
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Salvation Army says their annual Christmas fundraising campaign is falling short of its goal by $150,000.
The pandemic has put extra pressure on Red Kettle fundraising because of fewer kettle locations, a drastic drop in bell-ringing volunteers, and reduced foot traffic at kettle locations resulting in the 30% shortfall.
In response to this challenge, and for the first time ever, The Mankato Salvation Army is partnering with the local Hy-Vee and Cub Foods locations to maintain a “virtual” Red Kettle in front of their stores into January of 2021. The virtual kettle will provide three contactless ways through which people can donate to help offset the $150,000 deficit: (1) Apple Pay, (2) Google Pay, and (3) scan a QR code
