Actually Cool Things You Can Do in San Francisco This Spring Thrillist 3/8/2021 © Photo by Michael Brosilow We’ve officially been living in these dystopian times for an entire year, which is not exactly a fun anniversary to celebrate, but is hard to ignore nevertheless. We’ve gotten used to wearing masks everywhere we go, staying six feet apart from pretty much everyone, and may never wear actual pants again. Still, things are slowly starting to get back to “normal.” As of early March, we can even eat indoors, visit museums, and go back to the gym, a thing we likely all need to do if we ever want to fit into March 2020’s jeans again. We can also do all of this fun stuff, a lot of which is outside in case you’re still holding off on the whole indoors thing. We’ve got you and luckily, so does SF’s very mild weather.

A new ropes course has debuted in McLaren Park

I tried San Francisco’s new ropes course in McLaren Park. And I have a fear of heights. Tessa McLean The rope bridge suspended 25 feet in the air is shaking violently beneath my feet. Is it that unstable, I wonder, or is it my trembling that’s causing the bridge to sway back and forth so quickly? That’s when I remember I’m supposed to be breathing, the hint I’ve been given by Rosy Woodruff, the program manager of this terrifying experience I volunteered to try. Rather than take a pause and look down (I will never look down), I gaze to my right and indulge in a few more deep breaths as I take in the sweeping downtown view of San Francisco. Perched shakily beneath towering Monterey Pine trees on the new ropes course in John McLaren Park, I briefly consider that this is probably one of the most underrated viewpoints in the city. That is, until I immediately return to fearing for my life.

Bring your masks and other PPE, your own electronic device on which to watch the inauguration, and a lawn chair if you want to sit down. As part of a national effort, some of us will be proudly displaying American flags, and we will mark off six-foot squares for physical distancing.
