LETTER: Appeal for donations of items to help Keighley charity

Keighley organisations nominated for levelling up awards

ORGANISATIONS across Keighley have been nominated for a national accolade. The Levelling Up Goals Awards, backed by leading businesses, recognise bodies committed to creating a ‘level playing field’ for people to achieve life and job opportunities as Britain recovers from the pandemic. MPs nationally have nominated organisations from their constituencies in the awards scheme, which covers 14 different categories. Nominees put forward by Keighley MP Robbie Moore include University Academy Keighley, People First Keighley and Craven and Keighley College. The awards have cross-party parliamentary backing and are co-chaired by former public health minister and ‘loneliness champion’ Seema Kennedy and Peter Gibson, MP for Darlington.

Name that building: A tucked away architectural treat

LAST week’s building was the former Methodist Chapel, now the Beamsley Project, near Bolton Abbey. When the congregation dwindled in the 1990s, the Beamsley Project Charitable Trust was set up, with the aim to provide self-catering, accessible holiday accommodation for people with all kinds of disabilities. The buildings have been lovingly modified, keeping the character but providing excellent facilities to cater for all guests needs, however complex. The trust welcome groups in the 24-bed centre and families and individuals in the cottage which are both fully accessible. There is a wide range of hoists and aids to support visitors.
