Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed those members of Karbi militant groups back to mainstream society and congratulated them for deciding to give up arms while reposing faith in the constitution of the country.

In a major surrender, as many as 1040 militants of five Karbi ethnic militant groups, laid down arms and joined the mainstream society.
The surrender ceremony was organised in Guwahati on Tuesday. On the occasion, a total 1040 cadres of Karbi People s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), Karbi Longri N C Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) and United People s Liberation Army (UPLA) including self-styled Chief of PDCK Ingti Kathar Songbijit laid down their arms. Around 338 arms of different kinds along with 11203 bullets were surrendered by the militants.

More than 1,000 members of armed extremist groups in Assam laid down their arms before Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday.
The extremists belonged to five organisations People Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front, Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers, Kuki Liberation Front and United People’s Liberation Army that were primarily active in the hill district of central Assam’s Karbi Anglong.
