Grasmere Covid-19 vaccination centre sees 438 doses on Saturday

A record number, 438 people were vaccinated at the Village Hall on Saturday. Despite some delays due to internet connection problems, everyone remained in good spirits and very grateful to the hardworking team of volunteers and pharmacy staff for providing this excellent service. KNIT and Nat meet on the second and fourth Tuesday each month (May 11 and 25, 3pm on Zoom). For an invitation, please contact Christine on 35537. THE WI s regular Cheerful Chats on Zoom have allowed members to meet online every Thursday for more than a year. Now that friends can meet in groups of 6 outdoors, visits and walks will also be planned for some Thursdays.

Menu   Thousands raised for Ulverston s St Mary s Hospice by Grasmere Team (Here s how they did it) FUNDRAISING: Ten thounsand raised for hospice HERE are the latest announcements from our Grasmere community news correspondent Myra McCraith. The total raised by Team Grasmere for St Mary s Hospice is more than £13,000 including gift aid. Team Grasmere has been stepping a minimum of 9,000 steps every day throughout February to raise funds for St Mary s Hospice, Ulverston. The total raised so far is more than £10,000. Thank you to all the inspirational steppers and supporters who have worked so hard and given so generously. NEWS: Ambleside Here is the latest round up for Ambleside from our correspondent Jane Renouf. Lakes Parish Council welcomed news of the recently re-established Ambleside Chamber of Trade as “wonderful” and looked forward to organising a meeting with the 45 businesses that have joined the Chamber so far, to discuss what Parish Council and the Chamber could do for each other. Lakes PC Vice-Chair Brian Hewitt suggested a marketing initiative to revive tourism in 2021 with the slogan ‘Spring into Summer’. “This is exciting news, to have co-operation with the shops and traders who are the lifeblood of Ambleside. We need them – so let’s work with them,” he said at the recent Council meeting. 

Great North Air Ambulance benefit from Grasmere community effort

ST Oswald s Church Communion services continue (Sundays, 11am), all welcome. On Christmas Eve Rev d David Wilmot led an open-air carol service on Moss Parrock. The village brass band played a selection of popular carols and more than 100 people braved the freezing cold, enjoying this unique opportunity to sing heartily. WOOLLIAM, the knitted Christmas tree in the pharmacy, was created by members of the WI and Knit and Nat. It has attracted many visitors and Facebook friends, and is raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance. Knit and Nat meetings will resume on Zoom (Tuesday, January 12, 3pm). THE WI meet next Thursday on Zoom for Cheerful Chats (January 7, 2pm).
