Because of the coronavirus pandemic, jury trials in state courts in Michigan have, with a few exceptions, been on hold for nearly a year. The backlog is expected to take years to clear in some counties.

KENT COUNTY, MI One person has been hospitalized and another is in custody following a shooting early Sunday in the Rockford area.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Mercury Drive NE in Algoma Township at 6:28 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, Kent County Sheriff’s Sgt. Joy Matthews told MLive.
The victim, identified by police as 31-year-old Anthony White, of Rockford, is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
More than 20 other states have laws that ban motorists from cellphone use while driving; Michigan violators could get a $100 fine and 16 hours of community service.
