State appoints officers to monitor and curb rising Covid cases Daily caseload since mid-March breaks previous year records The state disaster management authority under the home department has appointed 12 senior IAS officers as nodal officers of 24 districts for daily coordination and monitoring of the Covid-19 situation. The move, according to officials in the disaster management department, is aimed for better surveillance, monitoring and helping local district administrations to work in tandem to curb the unprecedented rise of Covid cases in the state. On Friday, Jharkhand witnessed its biggest single day spike and casualties since the outbreak of the virus with 1925 new infections and 17 fatalities.

Ranchi: The state cabinet on Friday amended the building by-laws and made it mandatory to install rainwater harvesting structures in all new buildings. The cabinet also approved a proposed amendment in the by-laws which will now enable construction of high rise buildings in plots which measure less than 1,000 square meters (10,000 square feet). The 11-member ministerial council also approved a proposal whereby employees of the state government can avail post-retirement and death benefits of the new National Pension Scheme in retrospective effective from December 1, 2004. Earlier, the scheme’s benefits were for those who retired after July 8, 2019. The cabinet also approved allocation of Rs 28.81 crore for Saubhagya Yojana, which aims to illuminate 213 villages in remote parts of the state through solar panels. “As many as 7,776 families live in these hamlets,” cabinet secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh told reporters.

Image used for representational purpose only RANCHI: The state cabinet on Thursday approved the Jharkhand Green Energy Cess Bill 2021, which aims to levy a cess of Rs 0.15 per unit from companies that produce power from conventional sources, organisations which use high voltage transmission lines of 33KV and industrial units that have their own captive power production units. The cess will not be applicable to power companies whose 51% ownership is held by the state government. A bill in this regard would be tabled during the Budget session. The ministerial council, headed by chief minister Hemant Soren, also approved a bill which aims to amend the provisions of the COTPA Act of 2003. As per the provisions of the new bill, there will be a blanket ban on the establishment and operations of hookah bars in the state. Those found guilty of flouting the law will face a jail term of up to one year and a fine worth Rs 1 lakh.

State to exit pact with RBI, Centre on auto pay of discom dues | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The Jharkhand government on Wednesday decided to exit the tripartite agreement with the Union power ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to prevent another auto-deduction of the state’s outstanding dues to Centre-run discom companies. The state cabinet, chaired by chief minister Hemant Soren, gave its approval to the state energy department’s proposal to exit the agreement in the interest of the people of the state. “The money is deducted from a consolidated fund where funds for the development of women, people of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe and the money which is received by the state as per provisions of the 15th finance commission is received. Since the deduction is affecting interests of the state’s people and their Constitutional rights, Jharkhand government has decided to exit the agreement,” state energy secretary Avinash Kumar said after the cabinet meeting.
