For the first time since joining the ASUN Conference, the Liberty women’s soccer program is crowned ASUN Champions, defeating Kennesaw State, 1-0, in an overtime thriller Saturday afternoon at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.
With the win, Liberty is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. The NCAA Soccer Championship begins on April 27. Liberty will find out who they play on Monday, April 19, during the NCAA’s Selection Show.
On Saturday, Liberty’s Cora Duininck was named the ASUN Tournament MVP and joining Duininck on the ASUN All-Tournament Team is McKinley Burkett, Melody Jayroe and Meredith King.
Liberty is 0-2-0 all-time against Kennesaw State.
Liberty is 2-0-0 all-time against Kennesaw State.
Liberty ranks No. 1 in the ASUN Conference in goals against average (0.73).
Liberty ranks No. 2 in the ASUN Conference in shot attempts this season (67).
McKinley Burkett ranks No. 4 in the ASUN Conference with 12 shot attempts this season.
Melody Jayroe was named the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and also to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team.
Jayroe ranks third in school history with 15 career shutouts, tied with Natalie Meyer (2001-14).
Cora Duininck was named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team.
Duininck has earned all-conference selections in each of her three seasons at Liberty.
