Sussex fire crews responded to a fire on McAuley Road in Smiths Creek early Wednesday morning.
The house was fully involved when fire crews arrived on the scene.
Crews put out the fire with help from the Millstream and Penobsquis fire departments.
The homeowner, who was away at the time, is staying with family.
