Rockhampton’s commercial development industry is absolutely booming post-COVID with works about to begin on countless projects.
Come five weeks time, there will be two new service stations under construction, joining the plethora of approved developments beginning. The Mobil service stations will be built by Sydney-based group, RCI Group, on Queen Elizabeth Drive and Albert Street.
The service stations are expected to take three to four months to complete and will employ around 10 staff each once open.
The Queen Elizabeth Drive facility is on the site of the Capricorn Caravan Centre.
The Northside service station will have eight fuel bowsers, a retail shop, water and air station and a dog wash.
Communities and Heritage Councillor, Drew Wickerson, said this year there would be a mixture of ways people could honour Australia’s veterans.
“Last year, the community found new ways to honour those who have served, and continue to serve our country, which was fantastic to see,” Mr Wickerson said.
“The great news is not only are we able to have in person services again, but those new ways, such as RSL Queensland’s Light Up the Dawn campaign, will be back again this year.
“We understand not everyone will be able to attend Anzac events and encourage those who can’t attend to participate in Light Up the Dawn, which started last year in the midst of the pandemic and saw people lighting candles at the end of their driveways as a way to commemorate our veterans.

A Blackwater chef âfoolishlyâ took drugs at a party before driving along a Central Queensland highway.
Matthew James Hocking, 44, pleaded guilty at Emerald Magistrates Court on April 20 to driving while a relevant drug was present in his saliva.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Cramp said Hocking was intercepted by police on February 20 along the Capricorn Highway near Comet.
He took part in a roadside saliva test which returned a positive result and later indicated the presence of Methylamphetamine.
Hocking said he had âfoolishlyâ consumed meth the night before, which the court heard had been at some sort of celebration.
