A lawyer arguing for the right of trans women to play on the girls’ team was presented with a scenario for how that might play out in 20 years’ time. She did not want to know. In contention was House Bill 112, introduced by Republican Rep. John Fuller, which would exclude trans girls and young women from female sports teams at the K-12 and collegiate levels. Despite more people speaking against this step than for it, the bill has since been passed in the House by a 61-38 vote.

Campus carry debate spills into rules ruckus

A bill to expand where guns can be carried passed the state House of Representatives on Wednesday, but not before the debate went off the rails and into a ruckus over the rules. Rep. Seth Berglee, a Republican lawmaker from Joliet, had introduced House Bill 102, which would expand locations where both permitted and permitless concealed handguns may be carried. Of particular contention is the bill s function that blocks the Montana Board of Regents from prohibiting firearms on campus.  The House voted to approve the bill on a party line, 67-33 vote on Wednesday. The House passed the bill on third reading Thursday 66-31.
