The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead at the emergency room, said investigators.
Detectives said the preliminary information indicates that the victim and the woman were involved in a domestic dispute that escalated to an altercation culminating with the female shooting a handgun.
Police took 37-year-old Marvyann Duncan into custody following the incident, said Captain Stephen Hajdasz. Officers have not released information on what charges Duncan will face.
The Bloomfield Police Department Detective Unit is actively working with the Connecticut State’s Attorney on this investigation.

Police responded to a home on Filley Street a little after 10:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, 37-year-old Marvyann Duncan told them she had just shot her gun.
The victim was found inside the home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man has not yet been identified.
Police said it appears the man and Duncan were involved in a domestic dispute before the shooting.
The Bloomfield Police Department’s Detective Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation with assist from the CT State’s Attorney’s Office.

BLOOMFIELD A 37-year-old woman was taken into custody after a man was found shot to death in a Bloomfield home late Friday night, police said.
Officers entered a home on Filley Street after 10:30 p.m. on a report that someone had been shot and found a 39-year-old man with a gunshot would to the head, police said. He was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where was then pronounced dead in the emergency room, police said.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the man and woman were involved in a domestic dispute that escalated, resulting in the woman shooting a handgun, police said.
