On April 8, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment added key data to its barrage of information about the battle against COVID-19. The CDPHE s vaccine dashboard now reveals the counties that have vaccinated the highest percentage of their eligible population and the statistics contain plenty of surprises.
At this point, counties with smaller populations occupy both the upper and lower portions of the chart. The top performer is Mineral County, which numbered just 824 residents in 2019, according to the U.S. Census Bureau; it has a 49.2 percent vaccination rate. Meanwhile, Bent County, whose 2019 population hit 5,787, ranks 64th out of 64, at 10.2 percent.

Reported oil and gas spills declined considerably last year in Colorado, state data shows.
Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission data indicates companies reported 476 spills last year, down from 639 in 2019.
The group Center for Western Priorities says that 349 of last yearâs spills involved new releases, as opposed to companies reporting what are referred to as historic spills that occurred earlier but they only discovered last year. It says that of the 349 new spills, the company responsible for the most â13.2%â was Caerus Oil and Gas, which operates locally in the Piceance Basin.
The COGCC database indicates that spills reported in 2020 included 258 in Weld County, which last year led the state in drilling activity, and has more than 19,000 active wells. Sixty-three were reported in Garfield County, which ranked third among counties in drilling activity last year and has 11,922 active wells.

Public health is the branch of medicine that deals with prolonging and improving the quality of life across entire populations. Such a task is wide-reaching and can include anything from public education campaigns and hygiene mandates to disease-prevention initiatives and anti-addiction or non-smoking initiatives.
In the United States, individual states are responsible for creating, administering, funding, and overseeing public health policies, services, initiatives, and governing bodies but not all states put an equal amount of resources into the cause.
