FDH Financial Holdings Limited has provided an additional K34 million worth of Covid-19 fighting medical equipment and supplies to the Ministry of Health.

Making the announcement in Blantyre Wednesday, FDH Final Holdings Limited Group Chief Executive Officer William Mpinganjira said FDH Financial Holdings Limited, as a responsible corporate citizen, has joined hands with the Government and the people of Malawi in fighting the pandemic.
“We have made this contribution to assist in strengthening our healthcare system due to the scale and complexity of the pandemic. The medical equipment and supplies include patient monitors, pulse oximeters and oxygen refills.”

As one way of complementing government’s effort in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the Malawi Bureau of Standards has donated oxygen medical cylinders and surgical masks to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
The donation comes days after the Blantyre District Health Office revealed that the office was running out of protective materials including body bags.
According to Dr Levis Eneya, who represented the MBS Board, said the assorted items cost them 3 million in total.
And on his part Gift Kawalazira, Blantyre District Health Officer said the initiative will go a long way in supporting workers at the facility.
Dr. Zaziwe Fatsan Gunda, District Medical Officer for Blantyre has confirmed.
According to Dr. Gunda, the situation is very worrying as more people are still dying from the disease.
âWhat we are doing at the moment is to disinfect the bodies and we are improvising by using plastic aprons to cover the bodies so that we do not expose the guardian or relatives from being infected by the body. But we would have loved to have the body bags because they are specifically made for that purpose.ââ Gunda said.
He has however disclosed that all other personal protective equipment such as facemasks are in full supply.

The Bank contributed K10 million through the Citizens Response to Covid-19 Initiative a few days ago and has further released K60 million worth of medical supplies to the Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo-Chiponda.
