De acordo com o psicólogo e professor do Instituto de Psicologia da Universidade de Brasília (UnB) Mauro Silva Jr., a existência da diversidade é natural: “A sexualidade tem aspectos biológicos, psicológicos e socioculturais, e não há divisões exatas entre eles. Do ponto de vista biológico, existe diversidade na orientação sexual porque a seleção natural, processo que cria a evolução das espécies, produz variabilidade. A busca pelo vínculo afetivo e pelo prazer move a orientação sexual.”
