Mt. Pleasant Township voters will be sending a new face to the three-member board of supervisors this fall for the first time in years with the retirement of Jack Rutkowski.
Five candidates four Republicans and one Democrat are seeking nomination to run for the post and an opportunity to help steer the municipality as it prepares for the long awaited Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project. The highway project is designed to provide upgrades to Route 981 between Route 819 and the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport.

Wings Across Westmoreland alights in Youngwood on Saturday, with the unveiling of a new set of wings highlighting the borough’s unique history and culture.
The artwork, part of a countywide art initiative sponsored by Westmoreland Cultural Trust, will be presented to the public at 11 a.m. along the Five Star Trail at Depot Street by representatives of the trust and borough council.

• Diamond Theatre of Ligonier will conduct auditions for the play, “A Hiro’s Tale,” from 7 to 9 p.m. May 7 and 8 at the theater, 210 W. Main St. Performances will be July 23 to 25. Actors of all ages are needed, no experience necessary. Rehearsals will be Mondays and Wednesdays.
• Greensburg Art Center will feature a juried exhibit with works of various artists and mediums May 15 to June 25 at the Rowe Gallery, 230 Todd School Road. A free opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 15. Face masks and social distancing required.

A traffic stop near Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity resulted in the arrest of a Mt. Pleasant Township couple on drug trafficking charges after troopers seized three bags of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the car, according to court records. Dorothy N. The southbound lanes of I-71 closed Friday afternoon and into the evening at U.S. 62 on Columbus South Side after a fatal accident involving a semi trailer-truck.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:59 p.m. when a 2020 International truck and trailer exited the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over in a ditch, according to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Franklin County Sheriff’s office deputies and fire department personnel from Pleasant Township and Jackson Township responded to the crash, which took place south of Lambert Road, according to the release.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition. At 4:01 p.m., the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.
