  A communication and journalism expert, Professor Kwame Karikari, has said the media in Ghana are well-positioned to promote a cohesive and harmonious society in which democracy and the rights of the people thrive. He said suggestions that the media were promoting tendencies that could plunge the country into war were far-fetched as the facts did not support that position. “The media cannot cause war; they can create an atmosphere which political forces can manipulate to create chaos or unrest. “Wherever the media have been instrumental in creating unrest there is always a political force using a section as an instrument and tool to carry out a systematic agenda,” Professor Karikari, who is also the Board Chairman of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), said.

Dubawa Kick-starts 2021 Fact-checking Training To Combat Misinformation Twenty-six successful applicants will undergo a training that will equip them to combat the widespread regime of misinformation aka ‘fake news’ in the West African sub-region. by SaharaReporters, New York May 19, 2021 West Africa’s verification and fact-checking platform, Dubawa, has started the induction of twenty-six fellows into its 2021 class of fact-checkers to combat misinformation in the sub-region. The platform, under the aegis of the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism, announced the commencement of the yearly fellowship in Abuja on Monday.  Having run for three consecutive years, the 2021 fellowship is christened Kwame Karikari Fact-Checking and Research Fellowship in honour of Ghanaian Professor, Kwame Karikari.
