The Lewiston City Council has rejected an appeal fee for those who seek to challenge being cited for not complying with a council decision to enact a face covering mandate.
In a narrow 4-3 vote last month councilors passed the mask mandate. There are exceptions, but it generally requires people who are in the city limits to wear face coverings when they are indoors and unable to physically distance from other people, to slow the spread of COVID-19.
However, the council didn’t establish a fee schedule for those who wish to appeal the fees. Last week, Lewiston Police Chief Budd Hurd said his officers have yet to cite anyone for violating the order, but he noted such fees exist for the other citations the department issues.
