Remote learning changing the face of teacher education

MACOMB When Governor J.B. Pritzker ordered all Illinois schools into remote learning back in March, Western Illinois University’s School of Education director Eric Sheffield said his reaction was one of disappointment.
“I was initially very disappointed because being a teacher for a long time, I know the best kind of teaching happens, particularly when you re working with future teachers in person in a classroom where you can interact with them, socially and kind of pick-up cues from them while you re teaching,” Sheffield said during a Zoom interview.

“I would like to sincerely thank Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce for hosting the Business Awards and I am so pleased to say that PCRC has won Outstanding Not-For-Profit for 2020,” said PCRC Executive Director, Victoria Espey, who is nearing her fifth anniversary with the organization. “This year was like no other and we are so grateful to be recognized especially when we work alongside so many deserving community organizations.”
2020 was a challenge for many businesses in Portage la Prairie, including Prairie City Cinema, which spent most of the year closed due to COVID-19 restrictions but did manage to bring some entertainment to the community when it could.
A Private Funeral Service for Lola (Steenhoek) Vanderhart, age 82, will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021, 1:00 pm at The Bridge in Johnston, Iowa. Interment will follow in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City, Iowa. There will be no public visitation under present guidelines. Memorial contributions may be given to Elan Memory Care at Brio of Johnston in Johnston, Iowa. Van Dyk- Duven Funeral Home in Pella, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
Therapy Services from Pella Regional Health Center are now available in Prairie City, which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy at 404 South Commerce Drive.
The goal of the programs are to develop comprehensive treatment programs that relieve pain, restore mobility, increase strength and improve function.
Before designing a treatment program for patients, staff completes a thorough evaluation to accurately assess each patient’s condition. Once this is completed, a therapist works with the patient to develop a treatment plan and set individual goals.
