RAPID CITY, S.D. – Firefighters on Wednesday had another day of good progress battling the Schroeder Fire just to the west of Rapid City. They conducted several successful burnout operations, which improved fire lines by removing unburned fuel between the line and the main body of the fire. Those operations slightly increased the fire’s acreage to 2,195 acres. Containment remains at 47%. A glow from these recently burned areas was visible from communities near the fire overnight.

Celebration of Life services for 89-year-old Norman R. Havel of Prairie City will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from noon until 1:30 p.m. Interment with military honors at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.  Memorials have been established for Prairie City United Methodist Church, Prairie City Lions Club, or Prairie City American Legion.  Previous Story

Speed cameras live in Prairie City community

Mar. 11—The speed cameras approved for the City of Prairie City are now active throughout the community. A total of three cameras, two handheld units and one stationary trailer will be used by the Prairie City Police Department. "Two handheld units that will be used throughout town and one stationary trailer that will be placed at the 18 mile marker of Highway 163 westbound," Prairie City .
