Several law enforcement officials and lawmakers say they believe so.  But the violent breach of the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump extremists in Washington D.C. along with weekly protests near the Capitol in Sacramento, which have seen violent clashes between far-right groups and counter-protesters raises difficult questions about whether the state building is vulnerable to a similar attack. The California Highway Patrol provides security at the Capitol. CHP officers patrol the 40-acre grounds by foot, horseback, car and bicycle. They are responsible for crowd control during rallies and work in tandem with local law enforcement officials to maintain order during the events.

(KWWL) Iowa s Republican lawmakers are responding to growing calls to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office. In a statement sent to KWWL, Senator Chuck Grassley says President Trump displayed poor leadership in his words and actions, and he must take responsibility, after pro-Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. Everyone must take responsibility for their destructive actions yesterday, including the President. As the leader of the nation, the President bears some responsibility for the actions that he inspires – good or bad. Sadly, yesterday he displayed poor leadership in his words and actions, and he must take responsibility.

Council to take up trash complaints | News, Sports, Jobs

mgreier@salemnews.net Garbage regulations will be discussed when city council’s Rules and Ordinances Committee meets at 6 p.m. Jan. 12. “Everybody’s complaining about the trash not being picked up on time,” Councilwoman Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey said Tuesday night when contacted by phone. During the day, it was hard not to notice the overflowing trash containers with more bags and boxes piled on top and to the side sitting by curbs throughout the city. She said there have been complaints about noise, too, and some trucks are leaking on city streets. Dickey chairs the Rules & Ordinances Committee and announced the meeting during Tuesday’s city council session. She said Councilman Sal Salvino approached her about discussing the garbage rules. She explained the discussion will include regulations for trash haulers and restrictions related to hours for pickup or possibly requiring truck inspections for registration.

Jackson BOE sends replacement levy to auditor

Patricia Faulhaber Suburbanite correspondent JACKSON TWP.  During the regular meeting on Dec. 12, the Jackson Local Schools Board of Education approved sending a resolution of necessity for a substitution emergency levy to the Stark County Auditor s Office to verify the millage and the amount the levy will generate and the cost to homeowners. The 5.7-mill levy will be placed on the May 2021 ballot. It is a replacement for a levy that is currently in place which expires in May. The substitution emergency levy would run for five years if passed by taxpayers. “The substitution levy will not generate any new taxes, it would replace the levy in place now,” said the district’s treasurer Linda Paris.

North Canton Board of Education sets date for organizational session

DISCUSSION: The board also appointed the current president of the board Andrea Ziarko as President Pro Tem to preside over the organizational board meeting. The regular meeting will follow the organizational meeting. OTHER ACTIONS: Approved the 2021-2022 school calendar. Approved a contract with Concord Theatricals for the license for the amateur production of Puffs (two act addition) for $100. Accepted the following donation: $3,047 from the Orchard Hill PTO for half the cost of the subscription to eSpark Learning and to purchase the Swank movie licensing for Orchard Hill Intermediate School.
