The party also held its Flag Day celebration there last month, raising questions about why it keeps choosing to hold events at Lin Honeycutt’s Fieldstream Farm near Garner. Honeycutt was arrested in January and charged with one count of secret peeping, a felony. Alan Swain, chair of the Wake County GOP, told The News & Observer on Friday that he knows about the charge but believes Honeycutt deserves his day in court before anyone passes judgment.

UNC System leaders: Chapel Hill tenure question should remain at campus level

Nikole Hannah Jones As controversy continues this week over the failure of  the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees to vote on tenure for acclaimed journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, top UNC system leaders said they would not intervene in the matter. As Policy Watch reported Wednesday, the campus’ tenure committee re-submitted the Pulitzer Prize winning reporter for consideration by the board of trustees this week after national headlines and backlash from students, faculty and alumni. The board will have another chance to vote on the matter and the system’s top leaders said the final decision should be made at the campus level.

UNC-Chapel Hill Faculty Executive Committee urges trustees to vote on tenure for acclaimed journalist

The UNC-Chapel Hill Faculty Executive Committee held a special meeting Monday to discuss the Board of Trustees’ failure to grant tenure to acclaimed journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones.  The committee unanimously passed a resolution asking the board to immediately take up the matter of tenure for Hannah-Jones. “The Faculty Executive Committee strongly urges the Board of Trustees to uphold the long tradition of respect for recommendations from faculty bodies in hiring and tenure cases,” the committee wrote. “And to take up the matter of tenure for Nikole Hannah-Jones immediately, and to explain to the fullest extent possible, without violating the law, the reasons for its decision,”
