Sharjah: A 60-year-old businessman has been ordered by the court to pay a fine of Dh100,000, followed by deportation, in a money laundering case.
The Afghan man was also accused of selling drugs and the case is still being heard in court.
The details of the case came to light when the businessman received a text message, saying that an amount of Dh1,000 had been deposited in his bank account.
The man was surprised to have received such a message and contacted the bank to find out the source of the fund. The bank had promised to find out the source and call back. However, owing to his busy business schedule, he failed to follow up the matter with the bank.

AMMAN Two foreign tourists who went missing on Saturday in Barqash forest, in the north of the Kingdom, were found. The Koura District police found the two tourists, a French man and Swiss woman, who lost their way inside the forest.
Baker Kaabneh, Koura District administrator, said that police on Saturday afternoon received a communication that contact with two tourists was cut off as they entered Barqash forest, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that Preventive Security Department’s personnel found the missing tourists within two hours, noting that they are in good condition.

Adhere to precautionary measures today, says MoI official

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has enjoined citizens and residents to follow the instructions and precautionary measures set by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, especially during the celebration of National Sport Day, today.
“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Ministry of Interior has been keen to take immediate measures to limit the spread of the pandemic. Among these measures are establishing a committee called ‘Ehteraz Committee’ concerned with the application of precautionary measures in the country,” said Major Masoud Al Qahtani, Head of the Ehteraz Committee at the National Command Center NCC.

AMMAN Following His Majesty King Abdullah’s directive to the government in December 2019 to embark immediately on merging the Civil Defence and the Gendarmerie departments into the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the Kingdom welcomed 2020 with a stronger and more capable security apparatus, according to the PSD.
After the merger, the directorate over the past year proceeded with more reforms reorganising several units, resulting in the merger of more than 99 units with similar tasks and, as a result, saving some JD180 million, PSD Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh said in a PSD statement.
