The fall season for Buena Vista High Schoolâs newest athletic group, the Clay Target Team, wrapped up November in third statewide, and the 2021 spring season began in February.
In statewide standings, Abby Nagel finished second among women and Juniper Crago finished third in the conference and fourth in the state.
âThe extra effort from the BV team was clearly evident after the final averages were totaled,â said head coach Jake Farber.
Farber said the Demon target shooters âjumped from a dead last position in the spring state standings to third in the Colorado state fall season.â
The Demons conference, 1-A-2, consists of 66 participants, among which âthe BV ladies pulled through with some strong finishes,â Farber said. âThe men made big strides that took the BV team from a last place finish in the 1-A-2 Conference to within a single digit of securing a second-place finish. LOWELL â Christopher Mantis has had quite a career at Lowell.
The star guard has led the team in scoring each of the last three seasons, he was named an Indiana Junior All-Star last year, he scored a career-high 48 points in a home win over Portage on Dec. 15 â two points shy of tying the program record â and he has committed to Appalachian State to continue his career at the Division I level.
Mantis latest milestone? Passing family friend and 1989 Lowell alum Chris Jusevitch as the Red Devils all-time leading scorer. We ve been talking about this since I was in sixth or seventh grade, Mantis said. I grew up with this dude. He s like my uncle and another dad to me, so it s really cool. He s been talking a lot of smack, and he s pretty cocky toward me, but I know he still cheers for me. I m just excited that I could do it and that he s a part of it.
