Researchers find imazamox-resistant shattercane

By 4/28/2021 Researchers at Kansas State University identified three lines of shattercane that are resistant to imazamox herbicide, which is an active ingredient in a herbicide used in a new herbicide-tolerant grain sorghum hybrid system.  The United Sorghum Checkoff funded the research program last fall, collecting seeds of shattercane and Johnsongrass populations to better understand their sensitivity to IMIFLEX ™, Zest ™, and FirstAct ™ herbicides. In a preliminary greenhouse study, three different shattercane populations collected from three different counties (Decatur, Graham, and Phillips) in northwest Kansas survived the field-use rate (6 fl oz/a) of POST applied IMIFLEX ™ herbicide, indicating a suspected resistance to imazamox.

S&W Seed releases herbicide-tolerant sorghum system

Mike McGinnis S&W Seed Company and ADAMA Ltd., have announced U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval of FirstAct, the herbicide component of the companies’ Double Team Sorghum Cropping Solution for over-the-top grass control in grain sorghum. The two companies developed the Double Team herbicide-tolerant trait through S&W’s research and technology platform in collaboration with the United Sorghum Checkoff Program (UCSP) funding. A limited supply of seed containing the Double Tea trait will be available in 2021, while the companies expect more hybrids to be available for the 2022 growing season.  The Double Team system is the third over-the-top grass control system launched in grain sorghum in 2021, following Corteva’s Inzen and Advanta’s igrowth, which are tolerant to Zest WDG and ImiFlex herbicides, respectively. The Double Team system contains resistance to quizalofop, which will be marketed by ADAMA as FirstAct. As an ACC-ase inhibitor, FirstAct

Buford settles racial lawsuit over former school superintendent

Buford settles racial lawsuit over former school superintendent Residents turned out for the Buford Board of Education meeting Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, to express frustration over the handling of former superintendent Geye Hamby s resignation amid allegations of a racist rant and a lawsuit alleging discrimination. A race discrimination lawsuit that sent Buford’s school system into turmoil and prompted the departure of its superintendent has been settled, according to court records. The case gained notoriety across the U.S. and overseas because it included audio recordings of racist rants said to have been uttered by then-superintendent Geye Hamby. The person identified as Hamby in the lawsuit used bigoted language and spoke openly about wanting to kill Black workers at a construction site.
