According to Sid Salter, chief communication officer at Mississippi State University, the piece of equipment that exploded was a motor grader on the corner of Blackjack Road and Hardy Boulevard. The initial fire was pretty substantial and was rolling â big flames, Salter said.Â
The construction crew became concerned and contacted Brent Crocker, the university s emergency manager, and a Maroon Alert was issued out of an abundance of caution.
East Oktibbeha Volunteer Fire Department responded and was able to put out the fire. Roads remained closed for about an hour before another Maroon Alert was issued that they were reopened.Â

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Not too long ago, Mississippi State University (MSU) announced it was offering free vaccines to all employees. Now, the university extended its offer to its students as well.
MSU emergency manager Brent Crocker said the university currently has 1,170 Pfizer vaccines and 300 Johnson and Johnson shots available for students and employees.
“We understand that students sometimes feel like if they do get it, they’re not going to be very sick, he said. But we need them to also understand that they could pass it on to someone else.”

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Mississippi State University is offering free coronavirus vaccinations on campus to all of its 6-thousand faculty and staff.
Karah Lundy is a junior at MSU. She is considering getting the vaccine when it becomes available to her.
“If I knew that getting the vaccine would be able to get my college experience back to more of a college experience, I would get it in a heartbeat,” she explained.
MSU to vaccinate employees for coronavirus
The university says they will begin qualifying on March 16.

The university has been making plans to serve as a COVID-19 vaccination site.
MSU Emergency Manager Brent Crocker says they will administer a limited supply of Pfizer vaccines.
He says the school will continue to request additional doses until all MSU employees wanting the vaccine receive it.
A formal request has been submitted to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Mississippi State Department of Health to allow Mississippi State to administer vaccines not to just employees, but to students as well.
