As rightful owners of the seventh overall selection, the Cougars won’t have to wait long to make their first choice. For winning the WHL bantam draft lottery in March, the Portland Winter Hawks were awarded the first overall selection. The Winter Hawks won the lottery despite finishing the 2008-09 WHL season two points ahead of the Eastern Conference basement dwellers, the Moose Jaw Warriors.
