The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the Brookshire Brothers Store at the intersection of Highways 190 and 96 here in Jasper shortly before 3:00 on Tuesday afternoon when an electrical fire was reported there.
Firemen arrived at the scene to find the fire or smell of smoke was emanating from in or around the area of light fixture in the ceiling of the store, not far from the courtesy county.
Electricity to the fixture and is associated wiring was shut off and an electrical was called to the scene and little if any damage, or injury resulted from the incident.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS â Listen up Aggies, a 40-thousand-square-foot grocery store is opening up for business Tuesday and with all the bells and whistles, it could be your new favorite hang-out with not only food but a ton of social and lounge options.
The Lufkin-based, 100% employee-owned grocery chain opens up College Station s Brookshire Brothers store Tuesday.
The new space is located on Texas A and M University System land and will provide students and the community with a wide selection of unique products, a full-service pharmacy, a fueling station and an outdoor event venue.

The charitable foundation announced on Wednesday that despite COVID-19 related challenges, grants were given to 33 nonprofit organizations across the state of Texas, including in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Zavalla, Jasper, Newton, Dublin, Vidor, Burkeville, Brenham, Jacksonville, Bryan and Houston, as well as three educational foundations in Lufkin, Carthage and Vidor.
“Undoubtedly, this year has been a struggle, especially for nonprofit organizations. The Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation was greatly affected by the COVID-19 crisis, as we were forced to cancel both of our annual charity golf tournaments – our primary fundraiser each year,” said Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation Board Chairman Sally Alvis. “However, due to the support and benevolent donations from many of our vendor partners, we are pleased to distribute more than $75,000 in grants this year.”

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - For many rural communities in deep East Texas, Brookshire Brothers pharmacies seem to be one of the few place to find the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I will say that we were a bit surprised when the allocations came out,” said Laura Edmundson, Director of Clinical Pharmacy Programs for Brookshire Brothers. “We didn’t really know when we were getting them until the last minute, nor did we know we would be some of the only providers that had vaccine available to the public.”
