LAWRENCE, Kan. – The sixth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears had five players score in double figures and collected a total of 59 rebounds to top host Kansas 93-67 Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.
NaLyssa Smith scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds (both game highs) to pace the Bears, who improved to 21-2 on the season and 16-1 in the Big 12.
The Lady Bears didn’t waste any time heating up offensively in Saturday’s affair. Baylor jumped out to an 8-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. The Jayhawks (7-17, 3-15) continued to battle and cut it to a five-point game at 13-8 when Brooklyn Mitchell cashed in on a free throw.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Women’s Basketball lost a back-and-forth thriller against Iowa State on Wednesday night in Allen Fieldhouse, falling to the Cyclones 84-82.
Kansas dropped to 7-12 on the season and 3-10 in Big 12 play. Iowa State improves to 14-8 on the season and 10-5 in Big 12 play.
The Jayhawks had four players in double figures in the contest. Zakiyah Franklin set a career high with 26 points, while Holly Kersgieter dropped 18 points. Ioanna Chatzileonti poured in 11 points, and Chandler Prater had 10 points. The Jayhawks shot 49 percent from the floor and their 82 points are tied for their most in a conference game this season.
Kansas Women’s Basketball (7-10, 3-8 Big 12) continues their two-game road trip this week as they head to Manhattan for the Dillons Sunflower Showdown against Kansas State.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Freshman Mia Vuksic tied a school record for 3-pointers made in a game with eight Saturday at Kansas State, but Kansas fell to its in-state foe 77-66 at Bramlage Coliseum in the final edition of the 2020-21 Dillons Sunflower Showdown.
Vuksic, a freshman from Sibenik, Croatia, finished 8-of-14 from deep to finish with a career-high 24 points. The eight makes from long distance tie Charisse Sampson (1996) for the school record. The 14 attempts also tied a school record.
Vuksic was lights out in the first half from deep, knocking down four 3-pointers. She had never hit more than three 3-pointers in a game prior to Saturday. Vuksic was 3-of-4 from deep in the first quarter and she was 4-of-6 by half. Her hot hand from deep kept the Jayhawks within reach in the game’s first 20 minutes.
