A HEREFORD school which was plunged into special measures by inspectors two years ago is taking effective action to improve. Ofsted said The Brookfield School, for pupils between seven and 16 with special educational needs, failed to provide an acceptable standard of education, after an inspection in December 2019. They added the persons responsible for leading, managing or governing the school were not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement in the school, in Grandstand Road. But Ofsted revisited in March after the damning 2019 ‘inadequate’ inspection, and said leaders and those responsible for governance were taking effective action to provide education during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A sightseeing boat which crashed killing a 15-year-old girl made “high-speed” manoeuvres and was not following “safe working practices”, according to a report into the accident.
Emily Lewis was among 12 people taken to hospital after the rigid inflatable boat (Rib) collided with a buoy in the Solent on August 22 last year.
An inquest opened into her death heard she was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she died despite attempts to save her life.
A report released by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) revealed that the teenager was “catapulted into the handrail directly in front of her seat” when the Rib crashed into the North-West Netley buoy in Southampton Water at a speed of 38.4 knots.
